Description Senior resource supporting/leading the technical design and implementation of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems with a focus on delivering efficient, reliable, resilient, scalable, and high performing solutions. The resource will be accountable for assisting in the gathering and verification of non-functional requirements, review of architectures and designs, adherence to standards, and developing and implementing strategies for validating that the target requirements have been adequately addressed. They will work with the performing teams to deliver new capabilities and/or remediate issues. Where opportunities or issues are identified, the resource is accountable for partnering with various teams in identifying options, driving reviews and detailed analysis, developing solutions and providing technical direction. In completing the activities the resource will partner with enterprise architecture, application delivery and support teams, quality services, engineering, technology operations, and associated 3rd party vendors.
Responsibilities: - Provides a broad understanding of applications, platforms, and underlying technologies at the software, OS, and infrastructure levels. Partner with resources across various disciplines, lines-of-business, and vendors in the design, implementation, analysis, tuning, and troubleshooting of applications and the associated technologies - Analyzes and helps identify non-functional business and system requirements. Review system architectures and designs to validate those requirements are being met, and where there are opportunities, identify solutions and make key design decisions/recommendations - Provide technical leadership during implementation including the development of strategies to verify NFRs are being met, associated testing and issue resolution, and the tuning and optimization of solutions from a performance, resiliency, reliability, and scalability perspective. - Provides general technical leadership, guidance, and support to the project and ?business-as-usual? teams including platform, delivery, and production support. Responsible for identifying opportunities and making key system design, integration, and configuration recommendations and communicating those decisions to the individuals implementing the solution. - Responsible for identifying key performance indicators and thresholds for the application and leveraging the data in defining the capacity planning models and required monitoring and alerting. Ensures that a process is in place for validating the key indicators on a regular basis and verifying that the associated capacity planning models and monitoring are updated accordingly. - Completes application profiling verification/assurance for critical systems and reviews systems for production performance readiness with a focus on efficiency, resiliency, reliability, scalability, required monitoring and alerting, and adherence to development and implementation standards - Leads or supports proof-of-concept activities for new applications and technologies from a performance and non-functional analysis perspective including general product assessment, implementation planning, testing and evaluation, tuning, and KPI identification - Identifies and develops solutions which enable the validation of the target NFRs including, but not limited too, programming of simulator stubs, writing scripts to capture application and system metrics, writing code to drive volume for non-standard test situations
Qualifications Basic Qualifications: - 3+ years experience in large scale application and infrastructure projects including design and implementation - 5+ years experience in instrumenting and supporting critical, high volume, distributed systems - 3+ years experience in completing performance assessment and tuning activities across multiple technologies with a focus on the end user experience, resiliency, and stability - 3+ years experience of common application technologies and components (.Net, JAVA, container technologies such as Weblogic or Websphere, web server technologies such as Apache or IIS, etc?) - 3+ years experience in 2 of common infrastructure components and dependent systems:Server, network, load balancers, DNS, AD, etc... Preferred Qualifications: - B.S. in a technical area such as Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems - Familiarity in completing full system resiliency and stability assessments - Demonstrated experience with large scale application integration efforts - Web and container technologies (weblogic, Aqualogic, .Net, Apache, etc?) - Database technologies (SQL, Oracle, DB2, etc?) - Network technologies (Load Balancers, Switches, Routers, Network sniffer tools, etc?) - Middleware technologies - Mainframe technologies (zLinux, MVS, etc?) - Server operating systems (Windows, Linux, AIX, etc?) - Prior application and system architecture experience - Prior application development experience - Prior application support experience - Familiarity with various performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools
